Gudi Padwa is a Hindu festival that marks the traditional New Year for people in Maharashtra. It is celebrated by hanging a Gudi (also known as a Torana), made of a bright silk cloth and decorated with mango leaves and colorful flowers, from a tall pole outside homes and temples. It is a very festive occasion with lots of music, sweets, and dancing. The day is seen as an auspicious time to make new beginnings.
