The gemsbok (Oryx gazella) is a striking antelope native to Southern Africa. Its distinctive long, straight horns are nearly parallel on the head, reaching nearly 40 inches in length. Its sandy-colored coat is marked with black and white tuffs along the neck and romp. The gemsbok is an iconic herbivore that lives in herds of up to 25 individuals in deserts, semi-deserts and scrub habitats.
