Electric eels, or Electrophorus electricus, are a unique species of fish capable of producing shocking amounts of electricity. They can be found living in freshwater rivers and streams in the tropical regions of South America. When threatened, they are capable of releasing up to 850 volts of electricity, making them powerful predators of the waters they inhabit.
