Standing tall against the Colorado horizon, the Black Canyon is one of the most spectacular sights in the United States. This iconic canyon was created hundreds of millions of years ago when the Gunnison River eroded the volcanic rock of the ancient Pikes Peak batholith. The stunning vertical walls of the canyon stand 2,700 feet above the river and the canyon itself is over 6,600 feet deep.
