The Wind Rises is a 2013 Japanese animated historical fantasy drama film written and directed by Hayao Miyazaki based on his own manga of the same name. The film tells the story of Jirō Horikoshi, an aircraft engineer in the 1930s, who was inspired by the courage and spirit of young soldiers, and hoped that the aircraft he designed could be used to prevent war and save their lives.
