Install it in about a minute
Chrome only installs extensions from outside the Web Store in Developer mode. These four steps do it.
Download and unzip
Click the green button. Open the downloaded file to unzip it. You'll get a folder called wallpapers-daily. Keep it somewhere you won't delete it, like Documents.
Open Chrome's extensions page
Paste this into the address bar and press Enter:
chrome://extensionsTurn on Developer mode
Flip the Developer mode switch in the top-right corner of that page.
Click “Load unpacked”
Choose the wallpapers-daily folder. Open a new tab and your first wallpaper appears. If Chrome asks whether to keep the new tab page, choose Keep it.
Get a new wallpaper every time Chrome starts
Every new tab already shows a wallpaper. To also see one the moment you open Chrome, set Chrome to start on the New Tab page:
- Open
chrome://settings/onStartup(Settings › On startup). - Choose Open the New Tab page.
- Close Chrome and open it again. It now opens on a wallpaper, and each new tab shows another.
Questions
Is it free?
Yes. The extension is free, with no account needed. Wallpapers that are Premium-only on Wallpapers.com open on their wallpaper page instead of downloading.
Does it change my computer's desktop wallpaper?
No. It changes Chrome's new tab page. To use a wallpaper on your desktop, click Download, then set the saved image as your background in your computer's settings.
Where do downloads go?
Into a Wallpapers.com folder inside your normal Downloads folder.
What does it have access to?
It replaces your new tab page, saves your settings and favorites in your browser, and saves the wallpapers you download. It doesn't read the websites you visit or your browsing history.
Chrome shows “Disable developer mode extensions”. What do I do?
Chrome shows that notice for any extension installed with Load unpacked. Click the ✕ to dismiss it. The extension keeps working.
How do I update or remove it?
To update, download the new version, replace the old folder with it, and click the reload arrow on the extension's card in chrome://extensions. To remove it, click Remove on that card. Your normal new tab page comes back.
Does it work in Edge, Brave or Opera?
Yes. Those browsers run Chrome extensions. In Edge use edge://extensions and in Brave brave://extensions, then follow the same steps.
