AI Coloring Page Generator

Free Printable Outlines from a Prompt

Type a description, get a printable coloring page.

Describe what you want

Free to try.

Describe what you want — "a friendly dragon eating ramen", "underwater castle with octopus chef", "tractor parade in a wheat field" — and get a clean, printable coloring page in about ten seconds. Crisp outlines, no fills, no shading. Optimized for crayons, markers, and printer paper.

How prompt-to-coloring works

The model is a fine-tuned diffusion checkpoint that was trained specifically on line-art coloring pages, not generic AI art with a "make it black and white" filter. That distinction matters: generic models give you grey gradients and tonal shading that defeat the purpose of a coloring page. This one outputs solid black contour lines on pure white, the way a children's book illustrator would draw them.

Each generation runs at 1088×1088 (square) by default — perfect for US Letter or A4 with margins. We also export a print-ready PDF so kids and classrooms can skip the JPG-to-paper guesswork.

Writing prompts that work

  1. Subject first, then setting. "A unicorn eating spaghetti at a picnic table" beats "spaghetti unicorn picnic vibes". The model parses left-to-right.
  2. Add complexity sparingly. Two or three subjects max. More than that and outlines start crowding into mush.
  3. Skip colour words. "Pink elephant" is wasted tokens — output is line-art only. Use the saved colour for the kid with the crayons.
  4. Age cue helps. Append "for toddlers" for chunky thick lines and few details, or "intricate, mandala-style" for older kids and adults.

How it differs from our archive pages

We host thousands of pre-made coloring pages across categories like animals, cartoons, holidays, and vehicles — those are great when you want something proven and instant. Use the AI generator when the kid's ask is too specific to find ("a coloring page of MY guinea pig riding a skateboard"). Both produce PDFs you can print.

If you already have a photo and want to convert it to outlines, use Photo to Coloring Page instead — that's edge-detection, not generation.

Free, premium, and credits

Anonymous users get a small daily quota. Free accounts get more, plus saved history. Premium gets fast lane plus higher resolutions. Each generation costs a small number of credits since it runs on GPU.

Frequently asked questions

Can I print these on regular paper?

Yes — the PDF is sized for US Letter and A4 with safe-area margins. Standard 80gsm printer paper is fine; 100gsm or heavier handles markers without bleed-through.

What styles are available?

The default is clean coloring-book style. Append 'mandala', 'manga', 'kawaii', 'realistic line drawing', or 'simple toddler' to your prompt to push the look.

Are the images mine to use?

Yes — generated outputs belong to you, including for classroom packs, party favours, or freelance projects. We don't claim copyright on AI outputs.

Why does it sometimes generate odd anatomy?

Diffusion models still struggle with hands and tiny details. Re-roll usually fixes it; if it doesn't, simplify the prompt or split into two pages.

Can I make a series with consistent characters?

Roughly. Re-using a strong description ('cheerful red panda named Mochi, round face, plus-sign eyes') keeps the look stable. For pixel-perfect consistency, generate multiple poses in one prompt.

What size is the output?

1088×1088 pixels at 300 DPI when printed at ~3.6 inches. The PDF scales it to fit your paper with margins, so you don't lose anything to printer-edge clipping.

Will it work for adult colouring books?

Yes — say 'intricate', 'mandala', 'art-nouveau', or 'zentangle' in the prompt. Detail-density goes way up.

Can I sell prints I make from these?

Generally yes for one-off prints, party packs, classroom use. For commercial coloring books we recommend reviewing local AI-output copyright guidance — it's evolving.
