HEIC to JPG Converter

Free, Online, No Watermark

Convert iPhone HEIC photos to universally-readable JPG.

Drop an image or click to upload

Free to try.

Your iPhone shoots photos in HEIC by default — half the file size of JPG with the same quality, but practically unreadable outside the Apple ecosystem. If you've ever emailed an iPhone photo to someone on Windows, uploaded one to a website that "doesn't recognise the format", or tried to open one in Photoshop only to see a placeholder square, this tool is the fix. Drop your HEIC file (or up to 30 of them at once), and get back perfect-quality JPGs in under five seconds. No signup, no watermark, no upload to a third-party server.

What is HEIC and why doesn't anything open it?

HEIC stands for High Efficiency Image Container, a format Apple adopted in iOS 11 (2017) for the camera roll. Under the hood it uses HEVC compression — the same codec that powers 4K Netflix — to produce files roughly 50% smaller than equivalent JPGs at the same visual quality. On an iPhone, that means twice as many photos fit in the same storage. Apple devices, recent macOS versions, and Windows 11 (with the HEIF Image Extensions installed) handle HEIC natively. Almost everything else doesn't: Windows 10, ChromeOS, Linux, Android (until Android 10), Slack image previews, Gmail attachments, WhatsApp web, every CMS that processes uploads, and most photo editors built before 2019.

That's the gap this converter fills. We turn the HEIC into a JPG that every device, browser and editor opens without a second thought. Quality stays at 95 (visually identical to the source for any normal viewing), file size is typically 1.5–3× the HEIC original — still small enough to email or embed.

How to convert HEIC to JPG online

Three steps:

  1. Drop your HEIC files into the upload area above (or click to browse). Drag a single file, multiple files, or an entire folder — we handle all three. Up to 30 files in one batch on the free tier; up to 100 on Premium.
  2. The conversion runs in your browser. Files are decoded client-side via the HEIF.js WebAssembly decoder (we don't see your photos at any point — they don't leave your device until you choose to download them).
  3. Download the JPGs individually or as a zip. Output filename mirrors the original (IMG_4321.heicIMG_4321.jpg), so a folder of HEIC photos comes back as the same folder of JPGs.

EXIF metadata (date, GPS, camera model, exposure settings) is preserved by default. If you want to strip the GPS coordinates before sharing — common when posting photos online — run the JPGs through our GPS Stripper in a second pass.

HEIC to JPG vs other format conversions

HEIC isn't the only "modern" format that breaks compatibility. The same problem comes up with WebP (Google's web-optimised format), AVIF (the next generation), and PNG when you need a smaller file size. Our full Image Conversion suite handles all of them with the same drag-drop interface.

If you'd rather keep HEIC's compression efficiency and only convert when needed, you can change your iPhone's default format: open Settings → Camera → Formats and choose Most Compatible. Future photos will be JPG straight from the camera. The downside: every photo takes ~2× the storage.

Quality, batching and what counts as "premium"

Every conversion uses quality 95 JPG, which is visually indistinguishable from the source HEIC for any normal viewing condition (laptop screen, phone, desktop monitor, even high-res printing up to about 8×10″). Premium users can dial quality up to 100 (lossless-ish) or down to 70 (smaller files for the web). Premium also unlocks 100-file batches and adds an option to keep the original HEIC alongside the JPG output — useful if you want to send the JPG but keep the smaller original on your device.

Anonymous (no signup) gets 1 free conversion per day. Free signed-in gets 15 per day. Premium gets 150 per day. The conversion itself runs in your browser, so once you've started a batch, you can close the tab and the in-progress conversion still completes — your downloaded files don't depend on a server-side queue.

Frequently asked questions

Is the converter actually free?

Yes — anonymous visitors get 1 free conversion per day, no signup required. Sign in for 15/day; Premium for 150/day. There's no watermark on any tier.

Are my photos uploaded to your server?

No. The HEIC decode runs entirely in your browser via WebAssembly. The file leaves your device only if you choose to share the resulting JPG.

Will the JPG look as good as the HEIC?

Yes for any normal viewing. We use quality 95 by default, which is visually identical to the source on screens and prints up to about 8×10″. Premium users can pick 100 (no perceptible quality loss at all) or 70 (smaller, web-optimised).

How big can the input be?

Up to 50 MB per file on the free tier, 200 MB on Premium. Most iPhone HEIC files are 1–4 MB, so this caps you at extreme cases — multi-second burst photos or HDR raw.

Does it preserve the date and GPS in the photo?

Yes — EXIF metadata (date taken, GPS coordinates, camera model, exposure) is preserved by default. If you want to strip the GPS coordinates before sharing online, run the output through our GPS Stripper afterwards.

Can I convert a whole folder at once?

Yes. Drag the folder onto the upload area, or zip it first and drop the zip. Free: up to 30 files per batch. Premium: 100. Output is a single zip you can extract anywhere.

Why do I need this — doesn't Windows open HEIC now?

Windows 11 opens HEIC if you have the HEIF Image Extensions installed (it's a separate Microsoft Store install most people don't have). Older Windows, every Android phone before 10, Linux, ChromeOS, Slack, most email clients, and almost every photo editor built before 2019 still don't read HEIC. Converting to JPG is the universal fix.

Does the tool work offline?

Once the page is loaded the conversion is fully client-side, so yes — you could disconnect from the internet after the page loads and the conversion still works. Premium users also get a downloadable PWA installer for true offline use.
