Manjiro Nakahama, also known as John Manjiro, was a Japanese fisherman, sailor, and National Hero. In 1841, he became the first Japanese National to set foot in the United States. Manjiro achieved the impressive feat of learning English and becoming an expert navigator. Later in his life, he made significant contributions to the development of Japan during the Meiji period.
