GPS Stripper

Remove Location from Photos, Keep the Rest

Remove only the GPS metadata, keep camera/exposure data.

Drop an image or click to upload

Free to try.

Strip only the GPS coordinates from your photos before sharing. Camera info, exposure settings, and timestamps stay intact, so your photo library remains organised in apps like Apple Photos, Lightroom, or Google Photos. Maximum privacy with minimum data loss.

Why GPS is the privacy concern

EXIF GPS lets anyone see exactly where a photo was taken — within metres. That's home addresses, kids' schools, workplaces, and travel patterns leaked accidentally. The other EXIF fields (camera model, aperture) are far less sensitive.

Many social platforms strip EXIF on upload (Instagram, Facebook do; X doesn't always; Reddit doesn't strip in old.reddit). For anything you upload to a forum, marketplace, or self-hosted site, strip GPS first.

Selective stripping

  • This tool: strips GPS only. Camera, timestamps, settings preserved.
  • For everything: use EXIF Stripper.
  • To audit first: use EXIF Viewer to see what's there.

Common workflows

  1. Marketplace listings. Selling on Craigslist or local-app? Strip GPS before posting.
  2. Photos of your kids. Even on private feeds, GPS can leak through screenshots.
  3. Travel blog posts. Keep camera details for the photography credit, strip GPS.
  4. Real estate listings of your own home. When the listing comes down, the photos may stay around.

Bulk processing

Premium accounts can drop a folder; everything is stripped in one pass. Folder structure preserved in the output zip.

Frequently asked questions

Will my Photos library lose location info?

Yes — once stripped, the photo no longer carries GPS. Original stays in your library if you keep a backup.

What about Apple Photos / Google Photos location?

Those store location in their own database too. Stripping the file's EXIF doesn't remove it from those apps; it removes it from the file you share.

Does it work on HEIC?

Yes — iPhone HEIC files supported.

What about videos?

GPS in MP4/MOV requires different stripping — we have a separate tool rolling out.

Is it really completely stripped?

We remove the EXIF GPS block plus any GPS in XMP. We verify post-strip that no GPS data remains.

Maximum file size?

25 MB.

Bulk processing?

Premium supports batches up to 500.

Are files private?

Yes — deleted within 24 hours.
