WebP to JPG Converter

Free, No Signup, Quality Preserved

Convert modern WebP files to universally-supported JPG.

Drop an image or click to upload

Free to try.

WebP is Google's modern image format — smaller than JPG with the same quality, but rejected by surprising places. Slack image previews, design tools made before 2020, the file uploader on someone's HR portal. Drop your WebP, get a clean JPG, move on. The first conversion is free; no signup needed.

Why WebP exists and why it sometimes breaks things

WebP was designed to replace both JPG and PNG: lossy or lossless modes, transparency support, ~25–35% smaller files than equivalent JPGs at matching visual quality. Modern browsers (Chrome, Firefox, Safari 14+, Edge) handle WebP natively, which is why so much of the web has moved to it. The friction is everywhere else — older operating systems, design tools that haven't been updated, file uploaders that strict-validate file extensions, email clients showing broken-image icons.

Convert to JPG when you need a file that opens in literally any image viewer. The trade-off: JPG output is bigger and doesn't preserve transparency. For most use cases (sharing photos, embedding in slides, attaching to emails) that's fine. For cases where transparency matters, use our WebP to PNG Converter instead.

How to convert WebP to JPG online

  1. Drop your WebP files. Single file, multiple files, or a zip. Free tier: 30 per batch; Premium: 100.
  2. Pick a quality. Default is 90 — visually identical to source for normal viewing. Drop to 75 for thumbnails; bump to 95 if the image will be re-edited.
  3. Choose a fill color for transparency. White by default. Pick any HEX or use the colour picker if your WebP has an alpha channel.
  4. Download. Filename mirrors source (image.webpimage.jpg). EXIF metadata is carried over — strip with our EXIF Stripper if needed.

Quality settings explained

WebP and JPG handle compression differently. A WebP at quality 80 is comparable to a JPG at quality 87 — so when you convert WebP → JPG you usually want to bump the JPG quality slightly above the source's WebP quality to preserve perceived sharpness. Our default of 90 is conservative; the result rarely shows visible loss.

If your goal is the smallest possible JPG, drop quality to 75. The file will be roughly half the size of a quality-90 output with only barely-visible softening on flat-colour areas like sky. For the smallest possible image overall, stay in WebP and use our WebP Compressor instead.

Frequently asked questions

Is the conversion lossless?

WebP source already had some compression; JPG output adds another lossy pass. At quality 90 the loss is invisible to the eye. Below 75 you'll start to see it on flat colour areas.

What happens to transparency?

JPG can't store transparency. The transparent area gets filled with white by default; you can pick any colour. Use WebP to PNG if you need to preserve transparency.

How big can the file be?

100 MB per file on the free tier, 500 MB on Premium. Almost no WebP hits that ceiling.

Does it preserve EXIF?

Yes by default. Strip with our EXIF Stripper if you'll share the result.

Is the conversion done in my browser?

Yes — WebP decoding runs locally via WebAssembly. Files don't leave your device.

How many conversions per day?

Anonymous: 3/day. Free signed-in: 20/day. Premium: 200/day.

Can I batch convert?

Yes — drop a folder, multiple files, or a zip. 30 files per batch free; 100 on Premium.

Why is the JPG bigger than the WebP?

WebP compresses 25–35% smaller than JPG at matching quality, so the JPG version is always bigger. Use WebP wherever your audience's browsers support it.
