Remove Camera Metadata from Images

Remove all EXIF metadata from an image for privacy.

Free to try.

Strip EXIF metadata — camera model, lens, settings, timestamps, GPS coordinates, and embedded thumbnails — from your photos before sharing. Critical for privacy when uploading to forums, marketplaces, or social media that doesn't strip it for you.

What EXIF contains

  • Camera info: make, model, lens, settings (aperture, shutter, ISO).
  • Timestamps: date and time the photo was taken (and potentially modified).
  • GPS coordinates: latitude, longitude, altitude — exactly where the photo was taken. Yes, this can de-anonymise you.
  • Software info: what software was used to edit.
  • Embedded thumbnail: sometimes a small uncropped version is left in EXIF after a crop.
  • Personal info: some cameras embed the owner's name and copyright field.

When to strip

  1. Before posting on forums or marketplaces. Reddit, Craigslist, eBay don't always strip GPS.
  2. Before sharing screenshots. Screenshots can include the system's user name and machine.
  3. Before contributing to public datasets. Photographer identity removal.
  4. Before sharing photos of children or homes. GPS in particular is a privacy risk.

What stays

The pixel content. Resolution, colour, format — all unchanged. We only strip the metadata sidecar.

Selective stripping (premium)

Premium accounts can choose what to strip vs keep. Common pattern: strip GPS but keep timestamps and camera settings (so personal photo libraries stay organised in apps that read EXIF). Or strip everything except colour profile.

Frequently asked questions

Will it change image quality?

No — pixel data is untouched. Only the metadata is removed.

What about IPTC metadata (titles, captions)?

We remove it by default. Toggle to keep IPTC if you use it for organising.

Does it strip the colour profile?

Optional — sRGB profiles are kept by default. Strip for max privacy on already-sRGB content.

Will the file be smaller after stripping?

Yes — typically 50–200 KB smaller for phone photos.

What formats are supported?

JPG, PNG, HEIC, WebP, TIFF, RAW formats.

Can I batch strip?

Yes — free up to 30, premium up to 500.

Will it strip XMP metadata?

Yes by default. Premium accounts can choose what to strip.

Are files private?

Yes — deleted within 24 hours.
